Photograph caption dated May 23, 1930 reads, "Photo shows the presentation of the William Randolph Hearst trophy to the San Diego Army and Navy academy for winning second place in the western military academies division of the National Rifle shoot sponsored by Mr. Hearst. Meredith R. Pratt, left, representative of The Evening Herald, congratulates Col. Thomas A. David, president of the academy, on its victory. Behind the trophy are the members of the winning team, each of whom received a medal. Left to right, Private Harry H. Lee, Corporal Walter Bellon jr., Private Donald McNab, Corporal John B. Powell and Sergeant R. W. Kemp. In background are the academy battalion and band."
