Description
Notes from the photogapher: We fell in love with this house from the time we first saw it. It had been vacant for 5 years and was falling apart, but clearly had great potential. According to the Historic Resources inventory, the house was built circa 1870. In 1866, the University of the Pacific purchased the land that has since become College Park, and subdivided it to finance the construction of the UoP campus, which is now the site of Bellarmine College Prep. This house appears to be one of the earlier houses constructed, and is architecturally very similar to several of the original campus buildings, leading me to believe that it may have been owned by the University in the beginning. City Registries from the 1870's show professors and students living in the house and I have not been able to find records of the sale of this lot when the area was first subdivided. Regardless, it has been here from the beginning. Restoring this house was one of the most rewarding projects we have ever taken on. It is a wonderful neighborhood and has been a great place to raise our family. I've included a 4th "before" picture to give you a feel for where we started (not submitted as a contest entry).
