Description
Engraved map, 143.5 x 79 (without title) in Henri Abraham Chatelaine, "Atlas historique," VI, 1719. It is said to be simply a copy of 501 [from Wagner's "Cartography of the Northwest Coast of America to the year 1800," volume II, page 326]. It is made up in the style of the old seventeenth century maps with portraits of discoverers, plans of ports, and numerous pictorial illustrations. It is a regular Blaeu-Sanson style map, with Port e R. de S. Tomas discovered in 1684 and 1685 added. Briggs's I. de Ceintas is called I. de Celneas ou Cedros. Two new names have been added to the north part of the island of California: Cap. S. François Xavier, and the Coste of the same and the Pointe des Estrieres. Sanson's Tolaago is changed to Tologo. Detroid d'Anian is just north of California with a Terre d'Anian on the other side of it. Contains the track of the Philippine galleons and of Olivier du Nord in 1600. Meridian-Isle de Fer in the Canaries.
