Photograph of a over one hundred visitors (mostly Indians) lined up on the roofs of the adobe dwellings of the Hopi Indian village of Mishongnovi awaiting the Snake Dance, ca.1901. Ladders leaning against the walls provide access to the higher levels. The people sit and stand on the wall on the left where the sun hits as they look towards a tree on the far right that is left in shade.
