Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Description
Photo shows partial view of 350 people honoring the formation of India as a Republic. Among the speakers were Prof. Eugene Harley of the University of Southern California, representing the United Nations, and Dr. Mira Gavrilovich, president of the International Women's Club of Los Angeles. Co-chairmen were Dr. Maneck Anklesaria and Mrs. Gertrud Nasri. 5th from the right at the banquet is Yogananda, founder of the Self Realization Center. The event was held at the Armenian Center, located at 1501 Venice Blvd. and was sponsored by the Student's Assn. of India, the India Cultural Society and the American Wives of India. Photo dated: January 26, 1950.
