Photograph caption dated April 12, 1986 reads, "Union leader Bill Robertson, center, decries South African apartheid at a protest outside a Shell Oil station at 3rd Street and Western Avenue. Robertson, executive secretary of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, was joined by a coalition of 50 area civil rights groups yesterday to kick off a Southland boycott of the oil company, joining an already existing nationwide protest of the firm's business connections with South Africa."
