Description
1989-1186. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 3. Front of 3 separate buildings; on the left a brick building with sign "Coffee Roaster" between entrance flanked by windows and a row of horizontal windows above sign; in the middle is a two story stucco building with a pediment on top, three vertical windows and a decorative wrought iron balcony on second floor and entrance on lowest level; above entrance is address "1112"; on left side of building is a sign "WE BUY Gasoline" and a man stands leans on the wall of the entrance; in front of right building is a lamp post with 5 bulb globes; behind the lamp post is the third building "1110" with two windows on second floor decorated with outside curtains; above right building is an extra stucco floor with a bay window also decorated on the outside with bunting/curtains (?). Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "'Engine Company #3, Organized March 27th, 1851. Bldg. Erected in 1853. Abandoned in 1924. Size, 20 x 50, 2 stories, Cost $10,000."
