Description
This 1910 photograph captures a still-under-construction I Street Bridge, as taken from the Yolo County side of the Sacramento River. Notice the concrete piers in pristine condition, and the old wooden span, yet to be dismantled. The new bridge was constructed by engineers of the American Bridge Company and contractors of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Its construction was a vital step in the construction of a Union and Southern Pacific double-track system that would extend from San Francisco to Omaha.
