Description
This circa-1939 photograph offers a view of several businesses on the south side of K Street, between Ninth and 10th streets. The Hotel Land at 1106 10th St. is at the far left. To the far right of the photograph, and built in 1911, is the Forum Building at 1107 Ninth St. Below that are the Owl Drug Company at 900 K St., Moss Women's Clothing at 906 K St., Wilson's Confectionary at 908 K St., and the Fox Senator Theater at 912 K St., whose marquee advertises Bing Crosby and Franciska Gaal in "Paris Honeymoon" and a second feature, “Torchy Blane in Chinatown." Other businesses include the Moderne Bar and Restaurant at 910 K St., Sherman Clay and Company at 914 K St., Capital Clothing Company at 916 K St., Wachhorst Jewelers at 920 K St., and Rubin's Millinery at 926 K St. A lonely sign, advertising bowling, hangs in the middle of the photograph. The alleys, located at 1105 Ninth St., were operated by Albert Labhard. Several cars are parked curbside.
