Description
Barrio Expressions was a community access television show documenting Chicanx and Latinx life in the East San Francisco Bay Area. It ran on Hayward cable television from 1976-1985. While the shows were filmed primarily in the Hayward area, they include stories from around the East Bay and San Jose. The show aired weekly, with 26 episodes per year. Includes studio segment and call-in with guests Enrique Mendoza and Bill Corona from CalState Educational Opportunity Program (EOP); tribute to Leuben Ruibal, president of the Hayward Aztlan Boxing Club, with tape of his A Street mural dedication from 1979 and the first benefit dance for the Hayward Aztlan Boxing Club from October 1977; studio segment and call-in with guests Yolanda Hernandez and Isabella Alvarez about the UC Partnership Program that works with junior high and 9th grade students to prepare them for 4-year college; Juan Hernandez speaks about the history of minority education.
