Description
Waist-length portrait of seated Senator. Senator Crosby. Arrived in California in 1848 as part of Gold Rush. Served as delegate to First Constitutional Convention, then as Senator from Sacramento District in 1849 legislature. Appointed by President Lincoln as U.S. Minister to Guatemale. Returned to California where practiced law, eventually settling in Alameda. Harold Holmes. Bought from Mrs. E.O. Crosby of Alameda by Harold Holmes of San Francisco; presented to California State Library at request of Mrs. Crosby. Digital reproduction by Jesse Bravo; special Library project, 2009.
