Description
Old Harmony Borax Mill refined borax here in the 1880s and freighted 165 miles to Mojave in the 20 Mule Team wagon. Founded by William Coleman in 1882 and aquired by Francis Marion "Borax" Smith (1846-1931) and abandoned when colemanite ore proved more commercially profitable than the cottonball borax gathered from the surface of lakes and playas.
