Description
This is a photograph of Fr. Constantine F. Burns of Toledo, Ohio, a missioner of the Maryknoll Kongmoon [now Jiangmen] Vicariate in South China, beside a mission bell which summons the Christians for Midnight Mass.
Born in Ohio, Fr. Burns came to Maryknoll in 1919 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 15, 1924. He was assigned to Kongmoon, China the same year. In 1931, he was made Procurator of the China mission based in Hong Kong. In 1950, due to political unrest, he transferred to Kyoto in the Japanese mission. He spent his later years in mission in Hokkaido, Japan.
