Image of the Union soldiers of the 109th New York Infantry Regiment storming a hill in siege of Confederate troops at Petersburg, Virginia, during the American Civil War; men shoot from behind barricades, charge forward with swords raised, or help carry and tend to the wounded and the dead; smoke and explosions from artillery in the air.
"Lith. by E. Sachse & Co. Baltimore"--text, bottom left margin. "Entered according to Act of Congress A.D. 1865 by Andrew McCullum [sic] in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the State of Maryland."--text, bottom center margin. (Likely a reference to artist Andrew McCallum)
