Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated June 16, 1962 partially reads, "The class is the only one of its kind in the world and it is offered only at Edwards Air Force Base in the Antelope Valley. Called the Aerospace Research Pilot School, it is one step above the schooling given experimental test pilots. Its mission: to train men for testing aerospace vehicles. In eight months, the men will cover many subjects relating to orbital flight and astronautics, but Air Force officials say the course is not an 'astronaut school.' They admit, however, that some members of the class could go on to such advanced space projects. Seven slated to start today are Air Force test pilots and one is a Navy flyer." Seen in photograph from left to right, Capt. McIntosh, Capt. Smith, Lt. Com. Birdwell, Maj. Knolle.
