Description
Ankle-deep snow worried citrus growers. These workers on the Frink Ranch are carrying smudge-pot lighters. Smudge pots cast an oil-fired pall over the whole valley during a freeze, blacking cars, homes and the entire landscape. Wind machines were also used to keep freezing air from settling in the groves.
