Description
This photo, taken on the evening of Dec. 11, 1948, shows the store, nursery and greenhouse of F. Lagomarsino and Sons at 1213 Alhambra Blvd. The business was founded in 1870 by Felice Lagomarsino along Riverside Boulevard. It was here that vegetables were grown for local market and sold under the brand name "Lago." In time, the business grew, establishing nurseries in Brighton, just east of Sacramento, opening its first downtown location at 302-304 J St. in 1917. The pictured location was the business’s last, closing in 1958, with the original owner’s sons – Felice, John, Andrew and Fred – choosing to retire.
