DuComb and dated January 1869 with a central image of firefighters with hoses, ladders, and manual fire engines putting out a fire in a dry goods store labeled “EFores [?] Dry Goods” in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while a crowd of spectators watch from the street and surrounding buildings; the image is bordered by a uniformed fireman on either side with hoses and equipment, with one wearing a hat labeled "Hose" and standing on a hydrant and the other wearing a hat labeled "Fire" and standing on a fire engine; the certificate has an embossed seal of the Association. Date based on year certificate was issued to recipient. "Drawn & Engraved by J.R. Smith"--text, lower center margin. "Certificate of life membership to the Philadelphia Association for the relief of disabled firemen. This is to certify that B.C. Du Comb was admitted a Member of The Philadelphia Association for the Relief of Disabled Firemen January 1869. In Testimony Whereof We have hereunto affixed our Hands and the seal of the Association.
