Description
Photograph of several oil derricks at the Playa del Rey oil field in Venice, ca.1925. Eight derricks stand tall, with a series of structures, tanks, pipes and smoke stacks built into their respective bases. Several plumes of smoke sprout from stacks at left, behind the center oilrig, bearing the sign "Chanel Oil Co. Jo Ann No.1". In the foreground, several automobiles sit in the sand at center, facing a man tinkering with a set of pipes. Across from the man stands a truck elevated on a makeshift platform. Behind it stands a shed, two tanks and a portion of a derrick. The background is neutral.
