Description
Photograph of a painting of Mission San Rafael Archangel (founded 18 December 1817) by Father Serra, ca.1900. A small wooden frame bell tower standing in front of the mission has three bells in it. The mission church has a cross on the peak of the roof. A wooden picket fence proceeds from the church to the left behind which grave markers of the cemetery are visible. A longer portion of the building extends to the left which has a tiled roof (like the main church) and a long covered exterior corridor. A tree-covered hill is visible behind. "This is a photo of an imaginative postcard of ...1902 presumably by Felix Adrian Raymond (1869-1937). The legend which is crossed out above you '1151' is: '1491' -- Mission San Rafael Arcangel, founded 1817. San Rafael, California." -- Lucretia Little, 40 West Blithdale Circle, Mill Valley, California
