Photograph caption dated June 8, 1940 reads, "Jamming Spring street in front of the City Hall, part of a crowd of 15,000 persons is shown today at a big peace rally held on the City Hall steps. They heard Mayor Fletcher Bowron, chief speaker, declare that 'We Want Peace, but Not Peace at any Price." In the crowd are banners reading 'The Yanks Are Not Coming'; 'Give Our Sons Jalopies, not Poppies'; 'Yanks Say No to Tanks."
