"The Sanganeri (Sanganer) gate of Jaipur. Jaipur is a walled city with 7 such gates and several small ones. The flag & welcome were put up in honour of Lord Elgin - the Viceroy visit." External view of main gateway in to the walled city of Jaipur. The city of Jaipur was founded in 1728 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and was the first planned city in India. It is also know as the Rose City. The state of Jaipur itself covers an area of 14,527 sq miles. ❧ United Free Church of Scotland photographs from the Rajputana mission.
