Description
View 2: Dr. William A. Bryan, curator of Los Angeles County Museum of History, Science and Art - with painting known as "Madonna and Child Enthroned Between St. Nicholas and St. Paul." Samuel H. Kress, the "five and ten cent" millionaire from New York City, presented this painting, the work of Luca di Tomme´, to the Museum on May 12, 1931. The painting is tempera on panel and measures 132.7 x 114.6 cm. It was painted in Italy circa 1370, and its estimated value is $150,000. Luca di Tomme´ was an Italian painter from Sienna with over 50 works of art attributed to him, mostly altarpieces. Documentary and inscriptional evidence shows that he was a prolific and respected artist that was active from 1356 to 1389. His birth and death fluctuates from source to source, with some listing his birth as early as 1330 and death as either 1389, 1390 or as late as 1392.
