Description
Image is of a view to the west of San Francisco. It is a scene of complete devastation; only a few brick shells of buildings are standing in the center and to the right. The buildings in the right foreground appear to be intact, and they are labeled with signs. Some people can be seen trying to clean up or find items that survived. "J. P. del."--text, below image. "1850 [crossed out]. 1851."--handwritten text, below image. Paper color: gray.
Baird notes that this apparently is a drawing of a fire that occurred on May 4th, 1851.
