Description
"Bruder Gemuseus auf einer Reise durch Inamwanga im Jahre 1935. Um Kräfte zu sparen und ihm die Reise zu erleichtern wurde er in einer Hängematte getragen." ("Brother Gemuseus on a journey through Inamwanga in 1935. He was carried in a hammock to save his strength and to ease the journey for him.") A hammock is tied to a long, thin pole. Gemuseus is sitting inside and reading. At least five Africans are carrying the missionary. They are surrounded by dense vegetation.
Oskar Gemuseus (1874-1959) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. He served as headmaster from 1907 to 1916, as mission superintendent of Nyassa [Nyasa] Province from 1925 to 1930, as bishop from 1932 to 1939. Starting in 1939 he wrote a history of the mission in Nyasa Province ("Wechselnde Gezeiten an den Gestaden des Nyassa"). His wife was Mathilde, née Richter. See his publications: "Mission und Gold", Herrnhut 1936
"Ein Gebundener Jesu Christi (über Fiwombe)", Hamburg 1950
