A group of Hopi Indians performing the Flute Dance. Title transcribed from item. Signed on mount: "Frederick Monsen." Monsen's typed label on back says: "Hopi Pueblo of Oraibi, Arizona. The Flute Dance of the Hopi is the most poetic and beautiful of all their ceremonies. The dance alternates every two years with the Snake ceremony in the pueblos of Walpi, Mishongnovi, Shipaulovi [i.e. Sipaulovi], Shunopovi [i.e. Shongopovi] and Oraibi." Published in series Monsen wrote for The Craftsman, June, 1907.
