A grocery store is visible behind the train. "Received Examiner reference library: Apr. 27, 1939" -- stamped on verso. Streetscape. Horizontal photography. Originally, the image was captioned as "Train at the Southern Pacific Depot, 526 Central Ave., Los Angeles, [s.d.]". “During February 1869, several attempts were made to buy a lot at the corner of Aliso and Alameda streets for use as a depot site. This… lot was owned by a Mrs. Madigan, who demanded $14,000 in gold for her property… Finally, the project was dropped, and the “present” [sic] lot was purchased from John G. Downey and James F.
