Jack Northrop (left) and William E. Boeing watch the test hop of the first Northrop "Alpha" plane at Union Airport (Bob Hope Airport) in Burbank. The low-wing, aluminum Alpha came to be used for both carrying mail and airline passengers. Photo dated: March 19, 1930.
