Spectators watch hitter #26 Lefty O'Doul (March 4, 1897 - December 7, 1969) about to hit a ball during a game in progress at Gilmore Stadium and Hollywood Ball Park. Lefty, a San Francisco native, began his career as a batter who was also an extraordinarily successful manager in the minor leagues. In addition, he was a vital figure in the establishment of professional baseball in Japan. At the time this photo was taken, Lefty served as both a player for the San Francisco Seals' and the team's manager. A radio announcer is standing at his microphone, just to the left of the catcher.
