Black and white photograph showing a baby cared for by the staff of the Primitive Methodist Missionary Society at their hospital in Ama Achara, southeast Nigeria. Miriam sits on the veranda of the hospital in a tin vessel, used as a bath. Miriam was abandoned because she was a twin. Twins were considered unlucky in Nigeria, and many twin babies were abandoned, some of whom survived to be cared for by missionary workers. This photograph was pasted into one of a series of exercise book albums created by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Ama Achara Methodist Hospital.
