Description
Long, two-story hotel building with a wraparound porch and landscaped grounds of the Sierra Madre Villa hotel in what is now Sierra Madre, California, owned by William F. Cogswell, with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background and citrus trees in the foreground. Several people sit out on the lawn and on porch.
"Cogswell's Sierra Madre Villa, Los Angeles, Co., Cal. 4823" and "Watkins' New Series Of Pacific Coast Views, 427 Montgomery Street, S.F" and "Photographic Views of California ... etc. Views made to order in any part of the State or Coast."--text, printed in item margin. Title transcribed from item. Date devised by cataloger; Watkins made two trips to Southern California, in 1877 and 1880. Related item photPF 440 is a cabinet-card version of the same image.
