Remarks concern what McClatchy terms "the Japanese problem which confronts Hawaii and the United States generally," including the view that "assimilation between the two races" is not possible. Headings include The Subject is Broad; What Would Japan Do?; Roosevelt's Clearly Defined Views; White Labor Driven Out; Attitude of Japanese; No Assimilation; Making Japanese Citizens; Loyalty to Japan; and California's Attitude. Part of a series of leaflets by McClatchy concerning Japanese immigration published by James McClatchy & Co., publishers of the Sacramento Bee. The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942.
