General Benedicto Lucas García, Chief of Staff of the Guatemalan army, holds an M16A1 assault rifle of U.S. origin at the military base in Santa Cruz del Quiché. Parked behind him is a large white helicopter with a mounted machine gun on the side. The general is wearing a hat, large sunglasses, and a gold-colored Casio digital wrist watch. Lucas García was found responsible for crimes against humanity, aggravated sexual violence, and enforced disappearance by the Guatemalan court of high-risk crimes. On May 23, 2018, he was sentenced to 58 years of prison for these charges.
