The short-but-powerful first basemen anchored baseball's most enduring infield combination: Garvey, Bill Russell (shortstop), Dave Lopes (second base), and Ron Cey (third base) played together as a unit for eight-and-a-half years, from 1973 to 1981, and led the Dodgers to three World Series appearances.
