Description: Installation shot of Ken Gonzales-Day solo exhibition at SPACE Gallery in Portland, Maine. Photograph includes (left to right), "Old Oregon Trail" "Golden Chain" and "Two door down from where I write." Using archival records, Gonzales-Day went searching for California's historic hang trees. While some of the locations of the trees in this series are certain, others were taken in approximate locations that corresponded to the historical data available. For more information, see Lynching in the West: 1850-1935 (Duke, 2006).
