"Blantyre Hospital, Women's Ward." Exterior view of hospital building with indigenous people in foreground. The mission hospital at Blantyre, Nyasaland [Malawi] initially consisted of separate male and female wards, built in 1896 and 1897 respectively. The wards were at opposite ends of a compound situated on a ridge 400 yards above the rest of the mission's buildings. Accommodation for indigenous women nurses was added at a later date.
