Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on June 28, 1967 states: "Motorists are finding it easier to drive through Sacramento. One reason is shown in this view of the W-X Streets Freeway, looking west toward the Pioneer Bridge, which is now open to traffic in both directions west of 15th Street. Arrows, from top to bottom, show features of the elevated freeway. Arrow 1 shows the off-ramp at 5th Street, until yesterday the only off-ramp. Arrow 2 shows traffic on the newly opened 15th Street off-ramp while arrow 3 shows the corresponding on-ramp for westbound traffic. Arrow 4 indicates the end of the freeway road surface and the beginning of the only major gap remanning in the city's internal freeway system, from 15th Street east to the 29th-30th streets Freeway. This part of the freeway is scheduled to be finished by mid-1968."
