Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated March 25, 1949 reads, "Louie Puff, Canoga Park, inspects heater that cut off tree." The article partially reads, "A laundry boiler explosion that wreaked havoc with a Van Nuys neighborhood and narrowly missed spelling death for a mother and her baby was under arson squad investigation today. Minutes before the blast tore through a self-service laundry at 6416 Vesper Ave., last night, Mrs. Frank Wilson with her 14-month-old daughter, Beverly, had left the structure in which they rent an apartment. There was no one in the building when a defective water heater in a stucco leanto shed at the rear exploded....Fire officials said it was miraculous that no one was injured in the vicinity since the blast was felt for many blocks and stucco, timber and other debris was hurled several hundred feet."; See images #00113605 through #00113607 for all photos in this series.
