Description
Photograph caption dated October 24, 1979 reads, "A jubilant Julie Deanne Raatz, an 18-year-old freshman at Pasadena City College, reacts to the announcement yesterday that she has been chosen the 61st queen of the Tournament of Roses. Offering the new queen congratulations, right and left photos, is Judy Ann Bacic, 17, of Arcadia High School, one of six selected as a tournament princess. Others picked for the royal court include Pasadena City College students Linda Francine Deal, 18; Susan Louise Davis, 18; Elisabetta Rafaella Matioli, 18; and Melinda Ann Margett, 18; and Mary Jean McCoy, 17, of San Marino High School. 'There's always that hope in the back of your mind,' the new queen said after being told she would preside over the New Year's Rose Parade. 'And then,' she said, 'it really happened.'".
