One of the early and famous exhibits at Griffith Observatory, the Cosmochron, or Clock of the Ages. It included a recorded narration that detailed the evolution of life on earth, thus fulfilling a stipulation in the will of Colonel Griffith that the observatory should include an evolutionary museum. It was completed in the observatory shops in 1938 and then was taken to the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco for two seasons. Shown here is Leon Hall, a physicist with a Master's degree who was with the observatory from the beginning. He was responsible for developing most if not all of the exhibits and engineering them into the building.
