This is side B of the first tape, from day one, of the annual Drucker Symposium of 1988. Dr. Parker continues to discuss the willingness and flexibility, which are necessary in transforming organizations in a changing business environment. Additionally, he discusses about refocusing resources to be competitive and have employees with knowledge about change, understanding about what is wrong and what could be possible. He mentions having a management philosophy that attempts to synergistically join business economic goals of the organization and individuals' goals and needs. He mentions managing an organization that motivates people and commit to successfully execute the goals of the organizations. In addition to having what Dr. Parker describes as flat or flexible organization structures, he stresses the need to have more task-focused teams in various levels of management. Dr. Parker uses an analogy of playing tennis single or team to highlight the importance of performance in team settings. He concludes the discussion with the role and importance of human resources in moving the organizational change forward.
