Photograph caption dated March 14, 1958 reads, "Prepares for tomorrow - Mrs. Margaret Smith, named as Valley Volunteer Bureau's woman of year, teaches at special Valley School for Handicapped children in Van Nuys. Mrs. Smith draws on blackboard for Judy Calwick as Scotty Carlson, Bobby Hughes and Bobby Siggia, with backs to camera, watch. She is one of many Valley women who give their time as volunteers to help children who are unable to attend regular schools because of their handicaps. Problem of preparing them for adulthood is big one - one that takes many ours of personal attention."
