Description
Queen Marie de Médicis, the 2nd wife of Henry IV, wears a small gold crown with jewels on the back of her head, from which a long, white veil descends. Her hair is dressed with two strands of pearls from the crown to her ear. She wears pearl drop earrings and a single strand pearl necklace. Her dress has a triple-layered, standing lace collar and the pointed bodice is heavily decorated with pearls, gold trim, square and rectangle jewels, a large ornament with a gold fleur-de-lis on it. Her sleeves are close fitted with white lace cuffs. The skirt has a row of bows down the front of it with pearls on either side. Her skirt is white with a gold dot and zigzag pattern. The hem is edged with four grey stripes. This plate is part of a series of ancient portraits.
