The Clarence W. Pierce School of Agriculture is a two-year community college in Woodland Hills, California. It opened in September 1947, with 70 students and 18 faculty members and is part of the Los Angeles Community College District. The school's initial focus was crop cultivation and animal husbandry, and still retains a large swatch of open fields for hands-on working farm training. In 1956 the school was renamed Los Angeles Pierce College. Photograph caption dated June 13, 1961 reads, "Virginia Towne, 21, 18649 Saticoy Blvd., Reseda, left; Ben Seal, 22, 6934 Melba Ave., Canoga Park; and John Neblett, dean of Admissions, 6140 Aura St., Reseda, get ready for commencement exercises at Pierce Junior College, 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills, at 8 p.m. Thursday. Neblett will hand out diplomas."
