Title supplied by cataloger. Photograph shows an empty and abandoned Pacific Ocean Park. All of the park's rides, equipment and furniture will go on sale at a three-day auction on June 28, 29, and 30, 1968. It is said the sale will be the largest of its kind, with thirty-six rides of various kinds, 16 games and amusements, restaurant and bar equipment, office furniture and machines, electronic, maintenance, plumbing, paint and carpenter shop equipment included in the offering. The sale was approved by a federally appointed bankruptcy referee reported no plan could be found to operate the park or satisfy the creditors. The land on which the park stands is owned by the City of Santa Monica. Sale of the Pacific Ocean Park will end 73 years of amusement park operation on the site, beginning in 1895 when land owners Abbott Kinney and F. G. Ryan built the original 1,250-foot Ocean Park pier. Photograph dated June 21, 1968.
