"Brücke über den Birbir bei Jubdo. Der Belag der Brücke ist morsch und muß trotz des leeren Wagens ausgebessert werden. Je 2 Feldgleise werden so nebeneinandergelegt, daß der Wagen hinüber balanciert." ("Bridge over the Birbir near Yubdo. The surface of the bridge is rotten and inspite of the empty car has to be mended. Two field rails are placed next to each other so that the car can cross.") Frontal view of a truck and a wooden bridge. An Ethiopian man is walking over the bridge. Another man (Lombardo [?]) is squatting in front of the truck holding a rotten plank. Separate note reading: "Mit Lombardo auf der Rückfahrt nach Addis. […] Der Holzbelag […] ist so morsch, dass auch ein leerer Wagen nicht hinüber kann. Die Schienen [...] legt man vor die Räder, um die Brücke passi[e]ren zu können" ("With Lombardo on the way back to Adis. [...] The wooden surface [...] is so rotten, that even an empty car cannot go over it. The rails [...] are put in front ot the wheels in order to be able to cross the bridge").
