Photograph caption dated December 21, 1956 reads “Shown above are massive sprocket graders pulled by caterpillar tractors in preparing soil for 1.1-mile-extension of Hollywood Freeway from Lankershim boulevard to Moorpark avenue. Full use of this addition will not be full appreciated until Ventura Freeway ties into it serving as a speedy expressway through San Fernando Valley to Ventura located up coast.
