Description
Built on the East Coast, shipped around the Horn and assembled locally in 1863, the Collis P. Huntington was Engine #3 for the Central Pacific Railroad and made its first run from Sacramento in April of 1864. When the Central Pacific was purchased by the Southern Pacific in February of 1871 it became Engine #1 and was used on shorter runs. The locomotive was rebuilt in 1873 and a new boiler built by the Southern Pacific shops added in 1888.
