Study of forestry at Yale; comments on Gifford Pinchot and other foresters; growth of conservation movement; career in U.S. Forest Service, l9l5-l9l7; teaching at University of California, Berkeley, in School of Forestry, l9l9-l954; interest in redwoods; service as consultant to lumber industry and to U.S. Department of the Interior; association with Society of American Foresters and editorship of Journal of Forestry; influence on forestry legislation adopted by California after World War II.
