View 1 (v1p172a) -- view 2 (v1p172b) -- view 3 (v1p172c). In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 172. These photographs are contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written to side of photos: "Laying the corner stone of the Y.M. Christian Association Golden Gate Avenue by President Wm. H. Taft 19[ ]." Three similar photos of Taft laying the cornerstone of the YMCA building, northwest corner of Golden Gate and Leavenworth. The steel frame has already been been constructed, bearing a sign reading "Structural Steel Furnished and Erected by Dyer Brothers, Office and Works 17th and Kansas Sts." The carriage which presumably brought Taft is in the foreground, surrounded by policemen. A crowd is gathered within the barricades extending under the framework. Taft is only visible in the top and bottom photos; in the middle photo he is apparently laying the building's cornerstone, during which the crowd is waving flags.
